Top 5 Podcast I'm Listening to Right Now

A few weeks ago someone asked me how I had so much time within my day to listen to podcasts. This question struck me as odd because I feel that podcasts are easy to access and listeners can tune in almost anywhere. I listen to podcasts throughout my day in order to make the boring events of my daily routine more interesting. Whether I'm sitting at my desk, running on the elliptical at the gym or walking the dogs, I can usually be seen with headphones in listening to a favorite podcast. By nature, most podcasts I am subscribed to are of the true-crime nature and let me tell you, there is a lot of true-crime podcasts out there! In fact, there are so many true-crime podcasts that CrimeCon displays a whole "Podcast Row" to allow listeners to meet their favorite host and discover new podcasts while attending their events.

I am constantly discussing different true-crime podcasts with co-workers and friends. I have received many messages asking for podcast recommendations, and I am always happy to give my thoughts. The new year is still getting started and I thought it would be fun to share my absolute favorite podcast with my fellow true-crime nerds. Some of my recommendations may be well-known podcasts and some of them you may not find on Apple podcast top list. Each of the below-mentioned podcast is unique in their own way and pull towards different types of audiences.

1. Real Crime Profile

Lisa Zambetti, Jim Clemente & Laura Richards

This podcast combines all the best things, a former FBI profiler, a British behavior analyst, and the casting director for CBS's Criminal Minds. Jim, Lisa, and Laura come together to discuss major cases or even documentaries that are popular at the moment. I recently listened to their episodes on the Netflix series Don't F*** with Cats and was so intrigued by their thoughts on it. I have met the lovely group from Real Crime Profile twice now at CrimeCon and they are so kind and passionate about their work. I listen to a lot of podcasts, however, this one may be my top pick.

2. White Wine True Crime

Kari Martin & Caitlin Cutt

This is my favorite comedy true-crime podcast. These two ladies make me laugh out loud all the time when I'm sitting at my desk or listening in the car while I travel. Both women are stand up comedians who love true crime and are not afraid to say the F word. I had the pleasure of meeting these women at CrimeCon 2017 and after talking with them for a few minutes I knew I had to check out their podcast. I listened to one episode and immediately hit the subscribe button. I would even go as far as crediting these ladies and their podcasts for helping me discover my love for the podcast world.

3. My Favorite Murder

Georgia Hardstark & Karen Kilgariff

This is a cult favorite. Most people either love or hate this podcast. I enjoy the comic relief that the ladies bring to the podcast but what I enjoy most is that the cases they discuss are not high profile "every day" cases. The cases discussed are ones who may not have received much media attention or that subscribers have sent in from their hometown. Listeners are able to hear cases from across the country and around the world. The ladies of My Favorite Murder travel the globe doing live shows that are almost always sold out. I was unable to purchase tickets for their recent show in Pittsburgh, PA because they sold out so quickly. Fingers crossed I will be lucky enough to get tickets next time!

4. Crime Junkie

Ashley Flowers & Brit Prawat

I had heard great things about this podcast from fellow CrimeCon goers. Recently a co-worker told me I just HAD TO listen to it because I will love it. Well...she was right. I started by listening to these ladies discuss the Scott Peterson case and WOW. This podcast is really easy to listen to and won't leave you bored! I can not wait to listen to more.

5. You Can't Make This Up

Netflix

I recently came across this podcast while listening to an episode of Real Crime Profile. You Can't Make This Up is a companion podcast to Netflix and discusses all the wonderful Netflix original true crime shows. The episodes provide the listener with a "behind the scenes" look at all our favorite documentaries and shows. I fell in love with this podcast instantly and it was not long before I had listened to all the episodes in their backlog. I had even received a few suggestions on what I should watch next on Netflix. One another great thing about this podcast and why I highly recommend it for first-time podcast listeners is that the episodes are short and commercial-free!

Dateline NBC

Yes! Even Dateline has a podcast. Fans of the show can now listen to all Dateline episodes in podcast form. This takes the stress away from remembering to set the DVR or rushing home Friday evenings from your busy lives. Just subscribe to the Dateline podcast and enjoy listening to Kieth Morrison, and the rest of the Dateline crew, tell you all about their latest rollercoaster of a case.
