A Criminal Minds Farewell

As many of you know my favorite crime drama obsession is the show Criminal Minds on CBS. Criminal Minds first premiered in 2005 and it has been almost a month since we said goodbye to the beloved show after an amazing 15 seasons. Season 15 was short, with only ten episodes, but I believe the episodes were the perfect end. I would be lying if I said tears were not sherd during the final episode as the elevator closed and Penelope waved goodbye. I was extremely upset, and a little angry when CBS announced that the final season would only be 10 episodes. I was convinced there was no way they could do the show justice by cramming everything into only ten episodes. However, I was proven wrong early on in the season.

There were a lot of emotions that Wednesday night as I settled down with a glass of wine to watch the last two episodes of my favorite television show. I wrapped up in my Criminal Minds sherpa blanket, cuddled up to my pup who we named after Agent Prentiss three years ago, and prepared to say goodbye to my friends at the BAU. As a super fan of this fantastic crime drama, I thought it was important to share my thoughts and feelings about the series ending. I personally had a lot of like and dislikes about the final season...

LIKES:

  1. Spencer Reid FINALLY got a girlfriend. After being devastated by the death of his first love interest Mauve, Spencer finally meets a girl he is attracted to. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them flirt and even enjoyed the storyline of Cat Adams taking his girlfriend's family hostage and attempting to make Spencer look like a monster.

  2. We got to see Mauve again. After her death in season 8, Mauve kind of became a forgotten role within Reid's storyline. It was great that writers found a way for us to see them together again one last time.

  3. We got to see a lot of past killers from different seasons that were favorites. I was fun to see Cat Adams and "The Reaper" again although it brought back painful memories of Hotch's late wife.

  4. No one died! I always hate when you invest years and years into watching television shows and then they end with the death of one of your favorite characters. I was happy to see that everyone survived the series finale.

Our sweet Prentiss when she was just a puppy!

DISLIKES:

  1. Season 15 was short, the decision was made that the final season would only be ten episodes and I do not believe fans were happy about it. I personally felt

  2. We did not see the return of Morgan or Hotch. In a press release before the finale, it was mentioned that Shemer Moore aka Agent Morgan would not be appearing because he was too wrapped up in the filming of SWAT. The press release had no mention of Thomas Gibson aka Agent Hotchner, fans may speculate this was due to the fact he was fired from the show after an altercation with a producer. Although, shortly after the altercation the producer left the show so I think I can speak for all Criminal Minds fans when I say that we wish Thomas Gibson would have returned during the final season.

  3. Spencer's girlfriend was not in the series finale. It was disappointing that writers gave Spencer a girlfriend after years of him flying solo, but we did not see her by his side in the end.

  4. IT IS OVER- I will never be happy it ended.

It has been roughly two weeks since the end of Criminal Minds and I may still be in denial that it is over. Criminal Minds will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am forever thankful for the courage and confidence that this show gave me through college and graduate school. Anytime I was ready to quit and throw in the towel, "my friends" would talk me off the ledge and inspire me to continue working towards my goals within the criminal justice system. Thanks to this amazing show I will forever inspire to be as smart as Dr. Spencer Reid, as unique as Penelope Garcia and as BADASS as Jennifer Jareau!

Farewell Criminal Minds-- Thank you for 15 WONDERFUL years!

So what crime dramas are we supposed to watch now???
