Hi, My Name is Kendall...and I'm a True Crime Nerd

Welcome to Crime & Coffee with Kendall Ann. My reason for creating this blog was to combine my love of true crime with my passion for writing and creativity. I want to show the world of true crime through my lens and give it a modern style. I strive to share my knowledge within the true crime world with my followers.

ABOUT ME

By now you have probably gathered that my name is Kendall and that I have a very strong passion for true crime. Those who know me well know that I spend my evenings watching the Oxygen channel and drinking my favorite white wine. Fridays you can usually find me, my boyfriend and our adorable huskies snuggled up watching the newest episode of Dateline. I realize true crime is not everyone's cup of tea and I have been criticized for years about my fascination with murder and crime. I have received many dishearten looks from my family and friends at the dinner table when apparently "not everyone wants to talk about Ted Bundy". This has never stopped me, BUT I have toned down my dinner conversation topics. I recently set a goal for myself to turn my obsession for true crime and passion for reading/writing into something to share with others. I have always considered myself a creative person so I decided to jump into the world of of blogging which will allow me to combine my passions and show my creative side.

Over a decade ago I began watching and researching shows such as Criminal Minds, NCIS and Dexter. Even as a young girl I was drawn to children detective shows, maybe it all started with helping Steve find clues on Blues Clues. As I got older this lead to me reading books by legendary true crime authors and anything written about serial killers or violent crimes. I began binge watching documentaries and TV series (before it was cool) to continue expanding my true crime knowledge. As I entered college I became interested in social issues such as capital punishment and mental health treatment for inmates. I cant even begin to count how many times I have heard the statements “how do you watch those types of shows” or “how do you read those types of books and then go to sleep at night”. There has always been a part of me that was drawn to the true crime world and I have been lucky enough to turn my obsession into a career. Due to my interest I chose very early on in high school that I was going to go to college and receive an undergraduate degree in criminal justice.

In 2016, I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in sociology. Although this was a great accomplishment I was still yearning for more knowledge within in my field. I moved home and began working at a juvenile residential placement facility while attending the University of North Dakota Online. I am proud to say that in 2018 I graduated with my Masters in Forensic Psychology after two years of extremely hard work and sleepless nights. I currently work in the heart of the criminal and juvenile justice system as a juvenile probation officer. Many people ask me how I can work in the criminal justice field and still surround myself with true crime as a hobby. The answer is simple, it is my passion. I want to know why people commit crime, why humans chose to kill a fellow human being and why our countries current criminal justice system is in such ruins.

WHAT TO EXPECT

I understand that this blog will not draw the attention of everyone. However, I hope that fellow true crime nerds will find my content interesting, helpful and insightful. Readers can expect to see reviews for books, documentaries and TV shows on a variety of true crime topics. I will try to cover popular content along as introduce content that I think others may enjoy. I also will share my experience within academia to help readers understand the psychology of true crime. I want to bring the best true crime content to my readers so that they have book suggestions, know whether certain shows are worth watching or even where to visit on their next true crime road trip. So if you are like me and enjoy pouring yourself a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine), opening your latest true crime read and relaxing on the couch….you have come to the right place!
